The lowest temperature recorded in Fargo and Grand Forks so far this winter has been 1 degree above zero.
This difference is likely because rainfall soaks into the ground whereas snow actually accumulates into a visible, measurable depth.
It sometimes happens because of the speed at which snowflakes fall.
The average number of snow covered days for a season is 105 for Fargo and 110 for Grand Forks.
El Niño does not stop winter from coming, it just makes it less likely for any particular day to be cold and snowy during its influence.
