In this Weather Wednesday we look at how little ice there has been on the Great Lakes this winter.
Dead vegetation will not green up and grow until the ground temperature is up around 50 degrees and our ground is still below freezing.
Last spring, snow covered the ground most of March and April.
The average daily mean temperature of the winter is 4.3 degrees warmer per day than the second-warmest winter in 2011-12.

For the first time in 40 days and only the 11th time all winter, the temperature went below zero Wednesday morning.
This marks only the second time in recorded history (back to 1881) that there has been a recorded temperature in the 60s during February.
At 4 p.m. Monday, the temperature at Hector Airport reached 61 degrees, and at 1 p.m. Tuesday, it had fallen to 6 degrees.
